Big Finish Club – Seasons of Fear, Embrace the Darkness, & Time of the Daleks

Sad about no new seasons of Who for a while? Want to explore some of the classic Doctors? Join us for our monthly Big Finish Audio Club!

This month we’ll be discussing Seasons of Fear, Embrace the Darkness, & The Time of the Daleks – all 8th Doctor stories. Please listen to the stories prior to the meet-up, or you will be spoiled.

Below are the links to Big Finish.

Seasons of Fear – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/seasons-of-fear-654

On New Year’s Eve, 1930, the Doctor lets Charley keep her appointment at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. But his unease at what he’s done to time by saving her life soon turns into fear. Sebastian Grayle: immortal, obsessed, ruthless, has come to the city to meet the Time Lord. To the Doctor, he’s a complete stranger, but to Grayle, the Doctor is an old enemy.

An enemy that, many years ago, he finally succeeded in killing. And this is his only chance to gloat.

The Doctor and Charley desperately search human history for the secret of Grayle’s power and immortality. Their quest takes in four different time periods, the Hellfire Club, the court of Edward the Confessor and the time vortex itself. And when the monsters arrive, the stakes are raised from the life of one Time Lord to the existence of all humanity.

Embrace the Darkness –  https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/embrace-the-darkness-2 The Doctor and Charley travel to the remote Cimmerian System to unravel the mystery of its sun. But darkness has already embraced the scientific base on Cimmeria IV in more ways than one. In a fight for survival, the Doctor must use all his wits against a deadly artificial lifeform and an ancient race whose return to the Cimmerian System threatens suffering and death on an apocalyptic scale.

The Time of the Daleks – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-time-of-the-daleks-3

The Doctor has always admired the work of William Shakespeare. So he is a little surprised that Charley doesn’t hold the galaxy’s greatest playwright in the same esteem. In fact she’s never heard of him.

Which the Doctor thinks is quite improbable.

General Mariah Learman, ruling Britain after the Eurowars, is one of Shakespeare’s greatest admirers, and is convinced her time machine will enable her to see the plays’ original performances.

Which the Doctor believes is extremely unlikely.

The Daleks just want to help. They want Learman to get her time machine working. They want Charley to appreciate the first ever performance of Julius Caesar. They believe that Shakespeare is the greatest playwright ever to have existed and venerate his memory.

Which the Doctor knows is utterly impossible.

Big Finish Club – Dust Breeding, Colditz, & The Rapture

Sad about no new seasons of Who for a while? Want to explore some of the classic Doctors? Join us for our monthly Big Finish Audio Club!

This month we’ll be discussing Dust Breeding, Colditz, & The Rapture – all 7th Doctor stories. Please listen to the stories prior to the meet-up, or you will be spoiled.

Below are the links to Big Finish.

Dust Breeding – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/dust-breeding-646?range=111

On 19th century Earth artist Edvard Munch hears an infinite scream pass through nature. Centuries later his painting of that scream hangs in a gallery on the barren dust world Duchamp 331.

Why is there a colony of artists on a planet that is little more than a glorified garage? What is the event that the passengers of the huge, opulent pleasure cruiser ‘Gallery’ are hoping to see? And what is hidden in the crates that litter the cargo hold?

The Doctor’s diary indicates that the painting is about to be destroyed in ‘mysterious circumstances’, and when he and Ace arrive on Duchamp 331, those circumstances are well underway.

Colditz – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/colditz-627

October 1944: As World War II draws towards its conclusion, a Nazi defeat begins to seem almost inevitable. But that might be about to change…

Two intruders are captured in the grounds of Colditz Castle, the most secure POW camp in Germany. At first, the guards think they’re dealing with British spies. But the strangers arrived in an advanced travelling machine, the like of which they’ve never seen before.

With this TARDIS in their hands, the Third Reich might triumph after all.

The Rapture – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-rapture-202

Ibiza, 1997, and thousands of young people are acting like mindless zombies.

Which is to be expected. Ibiza, the island of dance music, sex, drugs and alcohol, is the ultimate hedonistic paradise.

God has sent help from on high to save the sinners of Ibiza. He has sent His angels to save their souls.

Which would be simple enough if these souls didn’t include an alien time-traveller working in a bar, a woman who disappeared in 1987, a young man carrying a photograph of a girl he’s never met and an Irish girl who doesn’t even know who she is anymore.
