Steampunk and Time Traveling weekend at Ren Faire! (NO HOST)

Taken from The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire’s website:

“We invite all our guests to dress up in your finest time-traveling attire. No matter which century you portray, we’re looking forward to celebrating a leap back (or forward) in time! It is, after all, a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey… stuff.”

This is a no-host event (aka, we won’t officially be organizing any events at the faire) – HOWEVER, if you’d like to connect with other Whovians in the group at the faire, you can leave messages here!

Art of the TARDIS Craft Faire (NO HOST)

Taken from Geeky Teas & Games Facebook event page:

This is it, the BIG ONE. The one in which we celebrate David Tennants birthday with a celebration of his work on Doctor Who. An entire craft faire. The day of the Impossible Astronaut.

“I go zooming around space and time, saving planets, fighting monsters, and being, well, let’s be honest, pretty sort of marvelous.” Doctor Who

Can’t get enough “Wibbly Wobbly, Timey, Wimey…Stuff?”

Calling all Whovians to “The Art of the TARDIS” at Geeky Teas on Saturday, April 23rd from 12-6 at 707 S. Main Street in Burbank.

Time Lords, Daleks, Weeping Angels…Raxacoricofallapatorius…flaunt your knowledge of the Whoniverse or simply have a cuppa and shop for handmade items created by local craftspeople.

Vendors will offer their unique Doctor Who-themed wares, plus food vendors will gather outside L.A.’s finest Steampunk shop and Geeky Tea Shoppe. This free, family-friendly event offers coloring pages for the littlest Who fans. Grab your favorite scarf, bow tie or Sonic Screwdriver and have your photo snapped in a full-size TARDIS. Fun for your inner Gallifreyan.

Allons-y!

An ode to the Big Blue Box and those that travel with her. Gallery show inside, vendors outside in two parking lots and all kinds of fun. Come join us and celebrate the art of a Time Traveling Police box

Big Finish Audio Club – Phantasmagoria, Horror of Glam Rock, & Immortal Beloved

Sad about no new Who for a while? Join us for our monthly Big Finish Audio Club!

This month we’ll be discussing “Phantasmagoria,” “Horror of Glam Rock,” and “Immortal Beloved.” Below are the links to the synopsis of each audio-story as well as where you can get it from Big Finish.

“Phantasmagoria” – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/phantasmagoria-620

“Horror of Glam Rock” – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/horror-of-glam-rock-517

“Immortal Beloved” – https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/immortal-beloved-518

Happy listening!

Doctor Who screening: Delta and the Bannermen/Gridlock & Torchwood

The screening theme this month is “Stories with Flying Vehicles”! Why? Because flying vehicles are cool! From the Classic Series is the Seventh Doctor adventure “Delta and the Bannermen,” featuring a flying bus, an alien baby, a 1950s holiday camp and lots of rock n’ roll! We also have “Gridlock” with the Tenth Doctor, Martha, and a lot of flying cars! We’ll also have the Torchwood episode “Out of Time,” as Captain Jack meets visitors from 1953 who come through the Rift in an airplane. Isn’t synchronicity great?

We’ll be meeting again at the Duck Club (detailed directions will come closer to the date in a subsequent email), and we’re doing another potluck! The organizers will take care of all the drinks and utensils, so we’re leaving all the food choices up to you. Please list what you’ll be bringing in the comment chain below, and please read what others are bringing before you post, to avoid a lot of duplications. The only food we’ll have is what people bring!

And if you’d like to bring games to play, there’s plenty of room to play games in the outer area. See you there!

April Kaffeklatsch: NuWho at 10: Is the Magic Still There?

NuWho has been around for 10+ years now, and our discussion will focus on what you think about the current state of the show and how your feelings/opinions may, or may not, have changed since you began watching: Do you love it as much as you always have? Why/why not? Has the show retained its excitement and specialness for you? Do the current episodes still keep your Whovian spirit strong? Does it still have the old magic?

Topics up for discussion include:
 o After a decade, and with a plethora of other sci-fi/fantasy television now, has the show become just part of your televisual furniture?
 o With many regular returning characters/monsters, heavy focus on the companions, regular regenerations, etc., has the show become formulaic?
 o Are the criticisms of overcomplicated stories/arcs valid, and are they making the show too offputting for the general audience?
 o Has the length of Moffat’s tenure hurt the unpredictability and innovation of the show? If so, what’s your prescription for renewing the excitement/boldness of the show?
 o The 50th anniversary celebration was over 2 years ago (!); has the peak excitement of “Day of the Doctor” held strong or faded?
 o With the long breaks between seasons, is there an “out of sight, out of mind” element that is hurting the show?

Our discussion will not aim to be overly critical, but will be a forum for us to express opinions positive or negative about the topics – there are NO right/wrong answers! There will be a waiting list, and we’ll finalize the location once we see how many people are interested in attending.
